this is geektastic!!!
I have a friend who was working on ‘self-organizing’ robots back in ’97-’98 thereabouts… he’d be green with envy at these thingies (I sent him the link right away). His work: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v406/n6799/abs/406992a0.html
We both worked with insects. He worked with ants and I with wasps… and his robots were programmed after how we think ant societies self-organize with recruitment of foragers and with individual thresholds for starting a ‘job’… the guys in this video look and sound like a new improved wasp version…
I’ve always been amazed how organized “autonomous” creatures look when they are working – we still have a lot to learn about how to make things simple.
